FAQ: Preppers University Courses
Where are your courses held?
Preppers University is a virtual education website, which means everything takes place on your own computer, no matter where you are. So, each and every course we offer is available from the comfort of your own home. All you have to do is choose a time that is convenient for you, curl up on the couch, grab a cup of coffee, and start learning.
I’m not very tech savvy. Will I still be able to take this course?
We try to make our website and online classes very easy to navigate. If you are having trouble, you can contact us at preppersuniversity at gmail dot com. Put “technical support” in the subject line, and we’ll make sure you get the help you need.
What kind of computer do I need?
For the best experience, especially with webinars and recordings, we recommend a laptop or desktop computer. Adobe Connect, the service we use for our webinars, will not replay recordings on smartphones or some iOS devices.
What is a webinar?
Our live classes take place online. These online classes are also called webinars. This just means that via the internet, we all connect to the same place at the same time. Students receive a special link that will bring you a log-in page where you join by simply typing in your name. (First name, nickname, whatever you’d like to be called.)
Then, you will enter our online “classroom”. You’ll see a chat box where you can type questions and comments on one side of the screen. There may also be a box with live links to books, products, and websites related to that particular class. You’ll see a Power Point presentation for the visual part of the webinar. Once class begins, 8 p.m. Central, you’ll be able to hear the instructors through the speakers on your computer. Lisa and Daisy will talk with the guest instructors and ask them the questions that you type in the chat box. It’s as interactive as you can get without being there in person.
What if I can’t make it to a webinar?
While it’s more fun to be at the webinars when they’re live, we understand that everyone has a different schedule and may not be able to make it. For this reason, the webinars are recorded and you can listen to them at your leisure. Some students have told us they listen to them more than once so they can take notes. You can also send any questions in ahead of time and we’ll try to work them into the class.
What if I get behind?
We understand that sometimes life gets in the way. This course is a guideline, not a deadline. When guests arrive, the kids are sick, or a project at work demands overtime, we don’t want Prepping Intensives to add more stress to your life. That’s why your membership includes access to the course for an entire year.
Do you have an installment payment plan?
Yes! It costs a little more because we are charged a fee for doing it that way, but you can make 3 equal payments, which will come out every two weeks.
I don’t have a lot of money to make big purchases. Will I still be able to become more prepared with this course?
Absolutely! We’ve all been there in situations when we didn’t have much to invest. Each week, we have our to-do list broken into three categories: No-Cost Preps, Low-Cost Preps, and Investment Preps. Even if you only do the no-cost preps throughout the course, you will end it far better prepared than you were at the beginning. We offer tips for DIY and less expensive substitutions, too.
What about my privacy? I don’t want everyone knowing what kind of preps I have.
You are welcome to participate or not when it comes to discussions of preps. Our community is a great way to connect with other like-minded preppers, and it’s so nice to talk with other people who have the same mindset that we do. However, ultimately, you are responsible for your privacy. We recommend that you not disclose extremely personal information like your address or place of work, and use discretion when communicating with other students.
What is the difference between the course with the Student Center membership and the course without the Student Center membership?
Without the Student Center Membership, you have access to the course, with all it entails (webinars, discussions, written content, podcasts, and lists) and a limited part of the forum. When you add the bonus Student Center Membership, you have access to the entire forum and our wonderful community there, a huge library of free downloads, our book club, new podcasts, and some soon-to-be-added mini-courses. The Student Center is constantly growing, and the information and community are an incredible value. (Here’s a sneak peek at all you get!)
What if I’m not happy with the course? Can I get my money back?
You have 10 days to decide whether this course is for you. If you aren’t completely satisfied, let us know and we’ll refund your money in full. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain!
Why doesn’t this course have lifetime access?
Frankly, you don’t have a lifetime to prepare. Part of the reason that we offer such an intense course is because we want our students to push hard to become as prepared as possible, as quickly as possible. Eight weeks with our Prepping Intensive is a short amount of time. However, you have lifetime access to go back and read articles, print them out, watch and rewatch webinars, etc. We emphasize taking action, not just reading, pondering, and talking about preparing.
What is the difference between the 8-Week Prepping Intensive and the 6-Week Advanced Intensive?
The 8-Week Intensive is foundational preparedness, focusing on topics like emergency food storage, water storage and purification, getting your house prepped for emergencies, and planning for potential evacuations. We meet every week to discuss the assignments and allow time for questions. This means that there is a lot of accountability in the 8-week class. The 6-Week Advanced Class focuses on long-term sustainability, DIYs, and skills. Study is more independent and there are no weekly check-ins. You can learn more about the differences HERE.
Is the Prepping Intensive a prerequisite before you can take the Advanced Intensive?
There is no requirement that you must meet to take the Advanced Intensive course, but if you enroll in the class, we assume that you have basics like food storage, water purification, and power outage preparedness in place. There won’t be enough time in the webinars to go over those topics, so if you jump right into the advanced course, you may feel a bit lost if you are unfamiliar with these subjects. If you do not have a preparedness foundation yet, you should strongly consider taking the 8-week course first.
